Ossabaw Island: Holy Ground
Shorter University, Rome, GA
The venue for our second OAC show is the Arnold Art Gallery of Shorter University, Rome, GA. The show is up through February 6, 2015.
Some observations on the reception which took place on January 25, 2015 from Russ Regnery: For those of you who were not able to come to Rome this afternoon, I'll mention that the OAC exhibit is well lit and nicely arranged and the reception was quite nice. Our Shorter College host, Kelly Mills, invited those of us who were present to say a few words about the group and our work and this seemed to serve as an 'ice-breaker' for subsequent discussions with the other people who attended. Several of the 'public' had some connection with Ossabaw including at least two Genesis participants (including Ann Fosky, author of the little history book of Ossabaw Island) and a couple of equal era Shorter College persons who had attended the Shorter program on Ossabaw in the 1960's. We actually ended up sticking around longer than we had anticipated. On our way out, Larry and I stopped to photograph the Shorter College electronic event display (out next to the main street) which featured the ongoing Ossabaw Artists' Collective exhibit, as spelled out in a zillion tiny RGB, LED lights (and interspersed with all of the dates for upcoming sports events and the fact that you can get your degree on line)! So even though the space couldn't compare with the Lyndon House Arts Center in Athens (and what space can?) the fact that there was a lot of interaction with the folks that attended the reception made it feel like a good experience. We had a nice time; I wish you all could have shared this with those of us who could. |
